Why can you see clearly up close and far away with just your eyes?

Imagine you're reading a book and suddenly you want to watch a movie on your phone. You squint and move the phone closer to your eyes, but the text is still blurry. You need a way to see both clearly without changing your distance from the screen.

Your eyes naturally adjust to focus on objects at different distances. This adjustment is called the eye's focusing power, which works through a flexible structure.

Example

When you squint at the movie, your eyes' focusing power changes, making the text clearer up close and the movie clearer far away.

Remember this

The unique characteristic of the human lens that allows this adjustment is its ability to change shape, a process known as accommodation.
