Did you know light behaves differently at the atomic level?

Imagine you're tuning a radio to get a clear signal. Sometimes, you hit the wrong frequency and get static instead of music. Why does this happen?

At the atomic level, electrons orbit the nucleus like planets around the sun. But they can only exist at certain distances, like specific radio frequencies. If you tune to the wrong frequency, you get static because you're not matching the electron's natural orbit.

Example

If an electron in a hydrogen atom jumps to a higher orbit, it absorbs energy like tuning to a higher radio frequency. If it drops to a lower orbit, it releases energy like tuning to a lower frequency.

Electrons only exist at specific energy levels, like radio frequencies. This explains why hydrogen's spectral lines appear at certain wavelengths.
