How do you decide what to focus on in a noisy room?
Imagine you're at a bustling coffee shop, trying to listen to your friend talk while background chatter and coffee machines buzz around you.
You're unconsciously choosing what to pay attention to, ignoring some sounds and focusing on your friend's voice.
Example
You tune out the coffee machines (selective attention) and the chatter (sustained attention) to hear your friend.
Remember this
This selective attention helps you concentrate on what's important.
