Ever wondered how architects ensure buildings are straight and stable?
Imagine you're helping to build a new skyscraper. You need to make sure that the corners of the building are perfectly square, so everything is stable and safe.
Picture a giant square playground slide. To make sure it's safe and straight, you check that the distance from one corner to the opposite corner (the slide's length) is equal to the sum of the distances along the edges (the slide's width and height). This check is the Pythagorean theorem.
Example
If one side of the slide is 3 meters and the other side is 4 meters, the diagonal (the slide's length) should be 5 meters.
